# Travel and Hospitality Facebook Ads: The Most Patient Category

> Travel ads survive longer than any other category, with one running 536 days. What patient advertising looks like and why the category can afford it.

Travel runs the most durable creative in the archive. In the [Hello Radio archive](/library), a live archive of real ads from more than 300 brands refreshed every morning, 24.7 percent of travel ads have been running for 90 days or longer, against an archive-wide rate of 9.8 percent. Twenty-two travel brands run 6,380 ads, and the longest, a Vrbo ad, has run for 536 days. Measured August 2026.

One travel ad in four survives to three months. In restaurants it is one in a hundred and sixty. That gap is the category in a single statistic.

## Why travel creative lasts

A destination does not expire. A beach, a city, a hotel room, a view from a balcony. The image that made someone want to go there in March still works in September.

Compare that to a restaurant promoting a limited-time sandwich or an apparel brand promoting a seasonal drop. Those creatives are tied to something that ends. Travel creative is tied to a place, and places persist.

The buying cycle also runs long. People think about a trip for weeks or months before booking. Creative that only ran for two weeks would miss most of the decision it was supposed to influence.

| Category | Ads still running at 90 days |
|---|---|
| Travel | 24.7% |
| Pets | 19.4% |
| Software | 16.6% |
| Finance | 15.9% |
| Home and furnishing | 14.0% |
| Retail | 11.5% |
| Apparel | 7.1% |
| Auto | 5.2% |
| Beauty | 4.2% |
| Restaurants | 0.6% |

## The call to action is a booking, not a purchase

| Call to action | Share of travel ads |
|---|---|
| Book now | 55.4% |
| Learn more | 26.3% |
| Shop now | 7.4% |
| Sign up | 5.6% |
| Install now | 1.1% |

Book now at 55.4 percent names the exact next step, which is the pattern that shows up in every category with a specific action. Restaurants say Order now. Streaming says Sign up. Travel says Book now.

Learn more at 26.3 percent is higher than in most retail-style categories, and that is the consideration layer. A destination someone has never thought about needs to become interesting before it can become bookable. See [what call to action should you use](/blog/what-call-to-action-to-use).

## Video and stills split the work

Travel creative is 42.2 percent video, right in the middle of the categories. Above home furnishing at 31.7 percent and apparel at 27 percent, below finance at 64.5 percent and beverage at 58.2 percent.

The split reflects two jobs. Video sells the feeling of being somewhere: movement, sound, scale, the sense of a place unfolding. Stills sell the specifics: the room, the price, the dates, the offer.

Most travel advertising needs both, running against the same audience at different moments. See [static versus video ads](/blog/static-vs-video-ads).

## Versioning is moderate

Travel ads average 3.6 creative versions each, close to the archive-wide 3.5. The most versioned travel ad in the archive is an Airbnb ad with 37 versions.

The natural unit of variation is destination and date rather than product. A hotel group shows different properties. A booking platform shows different cities. That is a narrower range than a retailer's catalog, which is why travel sits below retail at 4.7 and auto at 5.0.

## What a smaller travel business should take from this

1. **Give creative time.** In a category where a quarter of ads pass 90 days and buying cycles run weeks, judging an ad in two weeks is judging noise.
2. **Separate the dream from the deal.** One set of creative makes someone want to go. Another closes the booking. Trying to do both in one ad usually does neither.
3. **Say Book now when they are ready and Learn more when they are not.** The category runs both, deliberately, at different stages.
4. **Invest in a few genuinely excellent assets.** Because travel creative lasts, the economics of a great photograph or a great clip are much better here than in a category that churns monthly.
5. **Build retargeting seriously.** Long consideration means most people leave and come back. The second and third touch is where travel advertising is actually won.
6. **Version by destination, not by adjective.** Show different places rather than different ways of describing one place.

## Common questions

### How long do travel ads run?

Longer than any other category. Nearly a quarter of travel ads in the archive pass 90 days, and the longest has run more than 500 days, because destinations do not expire and buying cycles are long.

### What call to action do travel brands use?

Book now, on 55.4 percent of ads, with Learn more second at 26.3 percent. The split reflects two stages: making a destination desirable, then converting a booking.

### Should travel ads use video?

Both formats earn their place. Travel creative is 42.2 percent video. Motion sells the experience of a place, while stills carry rooms, dates, prices, and offers more clearly.

### How long should I wait before judging a travel ad?

Longer than in most categories. If the purchase takes weeks to decide, a two-week reporting window captures only the beginning of the effect you are trying to measure.
